Although family history research is one of the most popular hobbies in the United States,
most people stop short and miss out
on the true value of knowing their family stories.
If you want to live a happier, more fulfilling life
it’s time to engage with your family history differently.
According to psychologist Richard Swartz, developer of Internal Family Systems, there are eight characteristics of being and acting as your true self, unencumbered by the layers life has piled on top of you. In my 20+ years researching my own family and helping others do the same, I know how to help you use the exploration of your family history to strengthen those attributes so you can live a life filled with greater clarity and purpose.
Find connection with yourself as you see the pathways and experiences that led to how you see the world. Connect with your family as you learn more about them. Connect with other members in the community as you share your life experiences and perspective.
Monthly topics and exploratory questions will bring clarity about how you see the world. You will see the effects of events and actions of ancestors on other ancestors, shaping their beliefs and actions. You will gain clarity about your own beliefs, limitations, and opportunities.
Go beyond the blank spaces on a family history chart, how many questions can you imagine? Not only about a person's life events, but the effects of events in the lives of their family. You'll have plenty of prompts to encourage your curiosity as well as opportunities within the community to have friendly eyes look at your family with an outside perspective.
I'm all for accuracy and documentation, but there isn't a document for every event and not every ancestor left a journal with their thoughts or feelings. In what creative ways can you fill in the blank spots? You'll learn how to be creative in the sources you use to get a more complete picture of your ancestors. (And even be encouraged to use your imagination!)
Experience the many ways exploring your family history can bring calm and peace to your heart. From a temporary distraction from the day's stresses, to opportunities for introspection, to true peace that comes from having a different perspective about yourself and your family.
We all need more compassion, both given and received, both within our selves and out in the world. Learning the stories of the people who came before you, and sharing insights and perspectives within the community, will help us be less judgmental and more compassionate.
The more clarity you get about yourself, your strengths and your weaknesses, the greater your confidence that you have everything you need inside of you to succeed through the ups and downs of life. It will be easier to be disregard the voices trying to hold you back and instead listen to that true voice inside that knows your potential.
Courage is doing things even when they are scary. Your family tree is full of people who made courageous acts, tiny and enormous, that can inspire you to live your own type of courage. You can also see the affects of one person's courage ripple through generations. Where will your courageous ripples lead?
Have a greater sense of who you are with the strength and courage to face challenges.
Amplify your strengths to make your unique contribution in the world.
Find purpose and meaning in the ways you choose to spend your time.
Have hope and optimism for the future as you look at difficulties with a broader perspective.
Be confident in your ability to build on the past or to leave behind things that do not serve you.
Empower generations of the future.
Each month is focused on a theme to encourage using the past to understand the present and gain power over your future.
Each week you will receive a prompt for research and introspection that helps you go deeper on the month’s theme.
Like Facebook, but so much better. A place to share discoveries and insights, ask questions, and develop connections that add to your life.
Sometimes it is hard to prioritize the things we know are good for us. Put these sessions on your schedule (opt-in for reminders) or just drop in. A quick hello to start and then you are free to work independently.
Learning is amplified when it is shared. Come share your discoveries and insights for the month theme. Gain greater perspective from the experiences and ancestral experiences of others within the community.
Use the method that works best for you. Listen to theme introduction and conversation recordings on the private podcast feed, watch the videos, or read emails or posts. I’ve got you covered.
I open the doors the last week in December – join the waitlist and get your first month FREE!
You’ll be the first to know when this community kicks off. See you soon!
