Genetic Genealogy Leads to Discoveries and Connections | Stephanie Renée

In Stephanie Renée’s story, there’s an exploration of identity and belonging that resonates deeply. She began her journey seeking to fill in the gaps left by the early loss of her mother. Her path took an unexpected turn when she discovered her mother was adopted, leading her into the world of genetic genealogy. Despite the hurdles she faced, Stephanie was driven to understand her roots and expand her familial network, bringing her closer to understanding her lineage and establishing a sense of belonging. 

Stephanie Renée is proud Southeast DC native, who considers Philly to be her second home and the place that groomed her for success. Her debut documentary, NO SUCH THING AS NEOSOUL, illuminated details about the underground arts community in Philadelphia that has gone on to produce some of the entertainment industry’s most celebrated stars. Currently, Stephanie is working as a freelance media consultant and audiovisual editor, and she developing a web series titled THE DNA JOURNEY about reconstructing her family tree and personal history, after DNA testing revealed that her mother had been adopted. She is passionate about people of color knowing the truth of their ancestral lineage and the incredible persistence of our survival.
